German B1 exam — preparation
Each pack is a set of exercises in the format of the German B1 certificate exam — sample tests across all four parts: listening, reading, writing and speaking. Free German B1 exam preparation online, in your browser, with AI grading.
Our exercises are built as preparation in the format of the Goethe-Zertifikat B1 and telc Deutsch B1 exams — written by us, independently and with no connection to either exam provider.
ⓘ Our exercises are sample tests in the exam format, created with the help of AI and reviewed by us () — a tool to help you prepare. We are an independent service with no affiliation to the Goethe-Institut e.V. or telc gGmbH, we use no official exam papers, and this site does not replace a teacher or a language course — see the Terms.

What the packs contain
There are four packs: two per exam format, i.e. a “Pack 1” and a “Pack 2” for Goethe and for telc. Within one format the packs are built the same way and differ only in the tasks and topics — so you can sit a full test twice under identical conditions. The Goethe-Zertifikat B1 is modular: listening, reading, writing and speaking are four separate modules, booked and passed independently — a module is a pass from 60%. The telc pack follows the telc structure: Leseverstehen, Sprachbausteine, Hörverstehen, writing and speaking.
The tasks are ours, in the format and at the level of the real exam — they are not real exam papers. Official model sets are published by the Goethe-Institut and telc themselves; ours are for practice, as many times as you like.
How to use them
Closed tasks check themselves instantly and show you the correct answer. Writing and speaking are graded by AI: you get points, a list of mistakes and a model answer — so you know not just how much, but what for.
The simplest start is one complete pack, to see which part gives you the most trouble. Then come back to it in the training sections: image description, speaking and writing each have their own AI-graded exercises. If B1 is still far off, start with the course from scratch and come back when you are closer.
Frequently asked
Is it free?
Yes. Every pack, the audio and the AI grading work with no payment and no registration.
Are there answers?
Yes. Closed tasks check themselves and show the correct answer; written and spoken answers get AI grading together with a model answer.
Are these real exam papers?
No — they are original tasks in the format and at the level of the B1 exam. Official model sets are published by the Goethe-Institut and telc.
Goethe or telc — which should I practise?
Practise the format you booked. Vocabulary and level are the same; the task types and structure differ — which is why each format has its own packs here.
