BildbeschreibungWhy practise image description for the German B1 exam?
Describing a photo in German is a classic exercise for the oral exam. In exams such as the Deutsch-Test für Zuwanderer (DTZ), image description is even a task of its own — and in the speaking part of Goethe-Zertifikat B1 and telc Deutsch B1 you need exactly these skills: describing everyday situations, naming people and places, showing your vocabulary and speaking fluently.
It is not only what you say that counts, but also how. Describe the photo in full sentences, use prepositions of place (on, in, next to, on the left and right, in the foreground, in the background) and name specific details, not just the general topic. Short, one-sentence answers score poorly because they show neither vocabulary nor fluency.
In this training your answer is graded out of 27 points (pass mark 14/27) in four areas: task completion, grammar, vocabulary and fluency — as on the real exam, aim for a coherent, developed description.
How the AI-graded training works
Type your description in the box or record it with your voice — AI turns speech into text. After you send it you will immediately see a scored breakdown for task completion, grammar, vocabulary and fluency, a list of points worth remembering, vocabulary hints and a model answer to compare with.
You practise right in the browser, for free.
